Casting Call: Fantastic Four

Fox is rambling about a Fantastic Four reboot (contract must be up soon), so here's my choices for who should play the Fantastic Four. It pains me to recast some of these people since Michael Chicklis and Chris Evans did so well. Ioan Grufford wasn't too shabby either, but frankly, he won't be missed.

Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards- Billy Crudup
Billy Crudup kind of has the thin geeky look. He plays quite of different forms of spazs and has a very intelligent voice. It was Watchmen that inspired this choice. He's also a little older. Let's face facts. Not every superhero is 22 years old.

The Thing/Ben Grimm- Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Has proven to be quite awesome and charismatic as your average tough guy New Yorker. Add his broad shoulders, wide face, and his gruff voice and you have Aunt Petunia's favorite. Although he bitched about his costume in Watchmen, which is probably 100x better than Chiklis' Thing outfit. Plus he's already signed to a second comic adaptation, The Losers. Not that it bothers me on the audience end, I just wonder if actors would be willing to do more than 3 comic roles.

Invisible Woman/Sue Storm- Elizabeth Banks

I love Elizabeth Banks. She's beautiful and not in a sleazy or too thin Hollywood manner. She has a great sense of humor and can actually act (unlike Alba). I just don't see a down side.

Human Torch/Johnny Storm- Seann William Scott

I'm a fan of Scott. I think he is better than most give him credit for, and if given the chance to shine, would do very well. Johnny obviously is a more comedic role, and he has that down pat. But eventually Torch will require some kind of dramatic acting, and Scott has shown that in a few low key dramas, specifically Still Standing. There is also way more resemblance between Scott and Banks than Evans and Alba (LOL)

Casting Call: Marvel Knights

Over the course of the last year (at least), I have had a higher interest in the street level Marvel Knight characters, especially Daredevil and Iron Fist. And while Daredevil had one go, I really want to see Marvel tackle movie adaptations of these characters.

Daredevil- Michael C. Hall


I love Dexter. I think Michael C. Hall is fantastic on it and has been getting robbed at the award shows. He is in good shape, his hair is more naturally red than Affleck's bad dye-job, he has plenty of acting chops as proven by Dexter, and he would probably come relatively cheap considering Marvel has had a hard time getting their high profile actors to stick around. Michael C. Hall has already gotten used to a dual performance as mild-mannered daytime and vigilante nighttime.

Iron Fist- Charlie Hunnam


Iron Fist has gone way beyond Heroes for Hire. There's no going back. If a movie were to be made I would want it based on the material in Immortal Iron Fist, rather than one half of heroes for hire. Charlie Hunnam is young, good looking, blonde, and has the perfect build for Iron Fist. I think he is a budding talent. I thought he was great in Sons of Anarchy and Green Street Hooligans, and has a lot of potential.

Luke Cage- Idris Elba


Elba has played plenty of street-wise tough guys, but his role in RocknRolla got him a chance to play a street-wise tough guys with actual wit and charm. He could easily hold his own movie. He is also a pretty big guy with a decent build that could easily get to Luke Cage size.

Misty Knight- Sydney Poitier


Misty would make a much better partner for Luke Cage than Iron Fist, considering IF's new scope. I tyhink Sydney is another up and comer. I thought she had a lot of charm and screen presence in Grindhouse, and should be getting better roles than a supporting character in a lame Knight Rider update. Plus she's smoking and has some impressive acting pedigree with having Sidney Potier as her father.

Casting Call: Avengers

So Marvel is doing their whole Avengers thing. 4 solo series and a crossover. Iron Man was perfectly cast and their are some really great casting possibilities for the sequel (Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Emily Blunt, and Tim Robbins have all been brought up in some capacity), and The Incredible Hulk had a solid cast (maybe not the best possible cast though).

Now its down to casting Captain America and Thor, and when I look at the casting suggestions from internet fanboys, I shudder. I know that Captain America and Thor are drawn with huge muscles, but so are most comic characters. If we went by that way of thinking every superhero would be a bodybuilder and every heroine would have DD breasts. But there are far more important things namely, THE ABILITY TO ACT.

When you see names like Triple H and James Preston Rogers up for Thor or John Cena and this mystery Ben Ryan man youtubers seem to love for Cap, you see people mention muscles and size and how nice they are off screen or how they love the character so much. Thats all nice, but without acting ability to back it up than they shouldn't be considered. Have we learned nothing from Brandon Routh?

Alexander Skarsgard as Thor

Skarsgard is definitely a high potential up-and-comer. On Generation Kill, he played a confident leader. On True Blood, he plays a former viking turned immortal arrogant vampire with a bit of a superiority complex. He's from Sweden and of Scandanavian descent. He's 6'4 and has a decent build to work on. Stellan Skarasgard is his father, so he has some impressive pedigree.

Philip Winchester as Captain America

Philip Winchester has made a name for himself with a famous British character, but make no mistake, he is a born and bred red blooded American. On Robinson Crusoe, he plays a crafty and intelligent survivor with a soldier's mentality. He has a strong physique, 6'1", to build upon and classic good looks albeit a pointier nose than Captain America is drawn with. Seems to be a breaking point for fanboys, but I think it makes him stand out more.

Both of them come with very good perks. For one, they definitely have more talent and potential than most up and comers and "hot" actors, like Jensen Ackles and Scott Porter. Being relatively unknowns, they would probably come pretty cheap. Important considering the top talent that Marvel has been raking in and their problems budget wise keeping them. Their size is also very congruent to each other. Skarsgard being 6'4 and Winchester being 6'1 means that Thor will be taller but not outshine Captain America.
