Top 10 Sylvester Stallone Movies

In honor of the action movie to end all action movies, The Expendables, I have put together this list of the best movies made by their fearless leader, Sylvester Stallone.

10. Demolition Man

At first look, this is a pretty vacant action/sci-fi flick. Wesley Snipes chews the scenery and at some points the new utopia is too happy go-lucky, but Stallone's charm and wit take center stage. Stallone actually sounds genuine between punching people in the face.

9. Cliffhanger

Cliffhanger is a genre favorite, but mostly due to John Lithgow's manic villain. Stallone's ability to keep up is probably one of his more impressive feats.

8. Tango and Cash

A very different character than we are used to seeing Stallone play. He is intelligent and sophisticated, but he brings the pain as much as he ever has. Pairing him with Kurt Russel's gruff slob make for a perfect partnership.

7. Daylight

Stallone is out of his element with this survival story. The plot gives him more puzzles to solve than bad guys to punch.

6. First Blood

Stallone's first time as John Rambo cements himself as an action great. His world-weary and war-torn ex-soldier runs through a psychological gauntlet when tracked by an ill-tempered sheriff.

5. Rocky IV

Easily one of the more memorable installments in the Rocky series. Stallone depicts the famous boxer softened by his fame and money as he goes up against one of his toughest opponents. Any movie where a punch drunk boxer can end the Cold War has my attention.

4. Rambo

The most recent installment in the First Blood series is also its most violent and bloody. A more relaxed, docile Rambo comes out of retirement to save a group of would-be missionaries. Between killings, Rambo pontificates on the meaning of life, courage, and nobility.

3. Rocky Balboa

The one two punch that is Rock Balboa/Rambo cements Stallone's career as a writer/director. His surprisingly poignant, simple stories are easily relatable. Stallone somehow finds the heart among the muscle.

2. Cop Land

Stallone has never been this good as a NYPD wash out turned small town sheriff who despite his hero complex usually keeps his head low. He's finaly had the last straw and crawls his way through corrupt cops to establish justice.

1. Rocky

The first of the Rocky series and quite possibly Stallone's most memorable role, Rocky is by far the greatest sports movie of all time.
